Nursing Theories

The University of California, Berkley defines a theory as "a broad, natural explanation for a wide range of phenomena." Theories are concise, coherent, systematic, predictive, and broadly applicable, often integrating and generalizing many hypotheses. In short a theory is a collection of ideas or concepts using a methodical approach to explain an event. It is modifiable and can change over time. 

Theories are widely used in nursing, since time immemorial it continues to expand and made a great impact in nursing profession. Florence Nightingale, considered the first nursing theorist made the Environmental Theory which still being used by nurses of today. Theory gives nursing a guide a structured shape to follow for the implementation of care to patients. As theories continues to evolve over time so as the practice of nursing.
